Luis Suarez

Updated: Apr 24

Luis Suarez, one of football’s best strikers, joined Inter Miami in 2024 and has become an impactful player alongside Messi. He began his career as a youth player for Nacional in Uruguay at 13. Before then, at the age of 11, he had to reject the opportunity to train in Argentina because he couldn’t afford a pair of shoes. He had seven siblings and came from an impoverished family, which shows how he had to show resilience to earn the success he had. He made his professional debut with Nacional at 16 and helped them win a domestic championship the following year. He had played for Groningen and became a top-scoring player for Ajax before joining Liverpool. In 2013-14, he tied the scoring record for the Premier League and was the first player to break Ronaldo and Messi’s dominance over the scoring chart after transferring to Barcelona. Luis Suarez has also been controversial for his short temper. He was punished for biting opponents multiple times: from Ajax in 2010, Liverpool in 2013, and Uruguay’s national team in 2014. His skill has proven essential to growing Inter Miami and reducing the team’s reliance on Messi to bring popularity and success.
